But being able to watch the preview in full screen is nice for subtle editing tweaks. In the end, this isn't a cataclysmic problem. There are no frame drops in the final product, only while trying to view the preview. Lastly, the videos are exporting perfectly fine. So that kind of makes me think PowerDirector is trying to use my CPU to render the preview which is causing the drops in frames. I've heard that PowerDirector can have issues communicating with Nvidia cards though, and I think this may be the issue, as the preview window playback is smooth when not fullscreened. I have checked everything I possibly can. Today, I bought PowerDirector 16 Ultra for the fresh computer I just built. I am having trouble with the video preview on the timeline, every time I try playback it lags and is very choppy. (On a not very powerful machine mind you). So I had PowerDirector 15 on my Surface Pro 3 (i5, one step up from the base model) and everything worked fine as expected.
